A few simple rules make choosing easy. Over a dining table, pick a shade about one half to two thirds the width of the table. For a 36 inch wide table, a pendant of 18 to 24 inches looks balanced. To size a light for an open room, add the room’s length and width in feet: the total gives a good diameter in inches. A 10 by 12 foot room, for example, suits a pendant of around 22 inches.
Hang your large wicker pendant light so the bottom sits about 30 to 36 inches above a dining table or kitchen island. In open areas where people walk underneath, leave at least 7 feet of clearance from the floor.
